Pet Boarding FAQs at Atlas Animal Hospital & Emergency Vancouver

Whether you’re going away on a business trip or having out-of-town guests with pet allergies, sometimes you need a place where your pet can stay overnight. At Atlas Animal Hospital & Emergency Vancouver, we offer pet boarding for our dog and cat patients. While we’ve had a great many of our furry friends spend time in our facilities, it’s understandable for you to have questions. Here are some of the more common ones we hear:

Why Board With a Veterinarian?

Your first impulse may be to have a friend or neighbor take care of your pet while you’re gone, but your pet will be much better off staying in our facilities. Our first priority is to care for the pets staying with us, and we like to care for them just like our own pets. Your neighbor, while probably a very nice person, has other priorities in her life. Your pet probably won’t get the special attention he’ll get by staying with us. In addition, we have a veterinarian on call 24 hours a day for any type of emergency, and everyone who works in our boarding facility is trained in veterinary care. Your neighbor likely is not.

What Should I Do Before Boarding My Pet?

Our spots can fill up fast, especially during the holidays. If you’re planning to board your furry family member with us, give us a call to make an appointment that will save a spot. Also, make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date, including bordetella¬†vaccines. If your dog or cat is our patient, we’ll have the record here on hand. If you generally go to a different veterinarian, bring a copy of the vaccination record to our office.

Should I Bring Anything Special?

When your dog or cat comes to stay with us, it’s a little bit like letting your child go to a sleepover with a friend. If she has any special dietary needs bring enough for her to eat through the whole visit, plus a little extra just in case of accidents. Bring along a special blanket or chew toy she especially likes to help in the transition after you leave. A t-shirt with your scent on it is a nice addition that calms many pets down in the first hours.
